WHAT IS THE SHOW ABOUT?
It’s 1899 and the promise of a new century is on the horizon, but in New York City things are still black and white – especially if you’re a Newsie. Faced with unfair working conditions and seeking justice, seventeen-year-old Jack Kelly leads the New York City Newsies to unionize and organize a strike against the Prince of Publishing Joseph Pulitzer. Their actions capture headlines across the Big Apple and the attention of the country!
Inspired by a true story and based on the beloved film, Disney’s Newsies features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. Full of catchy songs including “Seize the Day”, “King of New York”, and “Santa Fe”, this high-energy, family-friendly musical celebrates the resilience, camaraderie, and determination of these history-making young people.
