Basic Shop and Set Construction:

This two day course is a mashup of basic set construction skills and shop class. Shop classes offer students the opportunity to build important and necessary life skills. Students will learn the how to use a power drill, table saw, and hammer.  They will each build their own set piece to take home, as well as build a group piece for use in one of T360’s next shows.

Students will learn:

  • Basic drafting, and hand and power tool usage. Take accurate measurements using industry standards.
  • Recognize shop roles and responsibilities including safety protocols.
  • Differentiate between various materials and hardware types and their uses.

Join us as we get a little dirty while letting our students test their inclinations toward possible careers in engineering, carpentry, or architecture.

Class is taught by Technical Director James Jontz.  James has over 25 years’ experience building sets, TOR floats, teaching Scenic Construction at South Pasadena High School.
